The public meeting of the Board of Directors of the Meyersdale Area School District was held Wednesday, March 7, 2007 in the Central Office Conference Room, 309 Industrial Park Road, Meyersdale, PA.
Members present: David Faidley, Jr., Brad Troutman, Jeffrey Moser, Steve Schrader, Thomas Deetz and Grant Atwell. Members absent: James Wiltrout, Charles McKenzie and Nancy Rouch. Also present: Curtis Kerns-Supt., Tracey Karlie-Fed. Prog. /Curriculum, John Wiltrout – H. S. Principal, Thomas Houser-Elem. Principal, Julie Stahl-M.S. Lead Teacher, Laura Schardt-Bus. Mgr./Bd. Sec., Angie Brant and Tiffany Wright-Press, Dan Johnson-Maintenance Supervisor. and Walt Lenhart-Concerned citizen.
The meeting was called to order by Grant Atwell at 6:30 p.m.
President Atwell accepted questions from the audience concerning the referendum question to be placed on the May ballot.
The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by Grant Atwell at 8:00 p.m.
President Atwell announced that an executive session was held from 7:00 p.m. until 7:50 p.m. to discuss personnel.
A motion was made by, Thomas Deetz, seconded by Steve Schrader, to approve the minutes of the February 7, 2007 board meeting. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.

A motion was made by Thomas Deetz, seconded by Steve Schrader to approve payment of the general fund bills in the amount of $120,189.69 and athletic fund bills in the amount of $13,617.58. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative.
Motion approved.
A motion was made by Jeffrey Moser, seconded by Thomas Deetz, to accept the resignation of Pam Drees effective at the end of the school year. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Jeffrey Moser, seconded by Steve Schrader, that Nancy Hay (our MH/MR Counselor) be given permission to act as Joanne Scarrone's mentor/supervisor in Mrs. Scarrone's effort to become a licensed, professional counselor. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Jeffrey Moser, seconded by Thomas Deetz, that Melissa Barndt (Elementary Education) be named to the substitute teachers' list pending receipt of proper paperwork. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Steve Schrader, seconded by Brad Troutman, that permission be given for our Interscholastic Reading Teams to compete in the reading competition here in Meyersdale on April 12, 2007. There is no cost to the district. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Steve Schrader, seconded by David Faidley, Jr. to approve the 2007-2008 school calendar. Copy in folder attached to minutes. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Steve Schrader, seconded by David Faidley, Jr., to approve the following:
a. Middle School Chorus to Maple Festival Park on March 28, 2007, (Senior Citizen’s Day). Cost to the district is approximately $100.
Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Jeffrey Moser, seconded by Brad Troutman, to approve the Intermediate Unit 8 General Budget. Copy in folder attached to minutes. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Jeffrey Moser, seconded by Steve Schrader, that the following referendum question be placed on the May ballot:
Do you favor the Meyersdale Area School District imposing an additional .3% earned income tax? The revenue generated from the increased tax rate will be used to reduce school district taxes on qualified residential properties by an estimated $79. The current school district earned income tax rate is .5%.

A motion was made by Thomas Deetz, seconded by Jeffrey Moser, to accept the resignation of Ronald Reckner as the varsity boys' basketball coach. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Thomas Deetz, seconded by David Faidley, Jr., that Sharon Walker be renamed silks and honor guard advisor for the band front at the stipend stipulated in the negotiated teachers’ agreement. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Thomas Deetz, seconded by Steve Schrader, that Craig Gindlesperger be given permission to attend an Upper Quadrant Pain and Dysfunction Clinic in Pittsburgh on March 22, 2007. Cost to the district is approximately $180. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Thomas Deetz, seconded by Jeffrey Moser, to give approval for the Somerset County American Cancer Society to use the Meyersdale Area track and associated outbuildings to hold a Relay for Life event on July 13-14, 2007. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by David Faidley, Jr., seconded by Thomas Deetz, to approve the proposed Somerset County Technology Center General Fund Budget in the amount of $4,312,211.33. Copy in folder attached to minutes. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by David Faidley, Jr., seconded by Steve Schrader, to approve the proposed Somerset County Technology Center Adult Fund Budget in the amount of $824,223.83. Copy in folder attached to minutes. Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
A motion was made by Thomas Deetz, seconded by Steve Schrader, that the following be approved:
a. Sandy Seifert to the Annual Meeting for Family and Consumer Science teachers in Pittsburgh on April 13, 2007. Cost to federal programs is approximately $350.
b. Melanie Reckner and Jodi Miller to a Reading Instruction Seminar in Pittsburgh on May 17, 2007. Cost to federal programs is approximately $100.
c. Susan Levy to the English Language Learners Data Management Seminar in Johnstown on March 7, 2007. Cost to federal programs is approximately $50.
d. Becky Hetz and Angel Floyd to Teaching the Holocaust in Ebensburg on March 17 and March 24, 2007. Cost to federal programs is approximately $320.
Section 508 vote: All members present voted in the affirmative. Motion approved.
