On Monday, January 14, 2019, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania activated the Safe2Say Something anonymous tip line, a key component of Pennsylvania Act 44 of 2018. The tip line is operated and monitored 24/7 by the Office of the Attorney General where tips are reviewed, classified, and forwarded to the appropriate school district. Tips that are found to contain information that may indicate a "life safety" issue are also forwarded to the Somerset County 911 Center.

Students, parents, and community members can submit tips via three methods:
    1) A free mobile application available for Apple and Android devices
    2) By visiting www.safe2saypa.org
    3) By calling 1-844-SAF2SAY (1-844-723-2729)

As always, we strongly encourage anyone with information relating to the safety of our schools to report these concerns immediately. Tips that are generally reported include, but are not limited to, tips regarding violence against students or facilities, tips regarding self-harm, and tips regarding substance abuse. In addition to the Safe2Say Something program, our community is reminded that any concerns can also be reported directly to a school district official and to the Meyersdale Borough Police.

Information is also readily available on the Safe2Say Something website www.Safe2SayPA.org.

  • In an effort to maintain a safe learning environment for students, faculty, and staff, please contact our school nurse if your child has been in contact with or has had COVID-19 during the time we have been on remote learning or during the holiday break. We would appreciate full transparency of recent illness to maintain a safe environment. We also request honesty in regard to out of state travel. Upon return to school, only approved cloth face masks and approved plastic face shields that cover the nose and mouth, extends below the chin and to the ears, and leaves no exposed gap between the forehead and the shield’s headpiece are acceptable. The nurse can be reached via email arough@masd.net or 814-634-8311 ext 308. Thank you.

Student General Exposure - 14 day quarantine and 24 hour symptom free (meaning exposed at school, work, church etc)

Household Exposure - 10 day for  the positive COVID 19 case in the house + 10 days for the student(s) quarantine and symptom free.

If a COVID test is not done, and your student has symptoms of COVID 19 (or anyone else in the home), the ill child will not be permitted to school for 10 days and be 24 hours symptom free. Other students in the house will not be permitted back for 20days (see household exposure above).

If your child has COVID like symptoms it is recommended you contact your health provider. A positive test on record shortens a household exposure and general exposure quarantine.  A positive test on record also prevents your child from needing to be quarantined for future exposures for 90 days. Positive COVID patients are felt to have immunity for 90 days.

  • 1-8-21 COVID-19 Update

    Meyersdale Area School Community,

This week, the Meyersdale Area School Board voted to return to a regular face-to-face schedule beginning Monday, January 11th. However, due to current COVID cases in the district, we will only be returning in a HYBRID SCHEDULE. Next week, High School and Middle School will be in school Monday and Wednesday and Elementary will be in school Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Students will be working virtually when they are not in school.

SCTC students will begin regular face-to-face instruction at the technology center beginning Monday, January 11th.  The SCTC schedule, including transportation, will remain the same Monday through Friday.

All extra-curricular activities will resume on Monday.

As of today, all students will resume full-time face-to-face instruction on Monday, January 18th. Although this had previously been scheduled as an Act 80 day, students will be in session on this date. Please look for additional information as we get closer to that date.

  • 12-3-20 COVID-19 Update

Based on the rising concerns with COVID-19 in our area, the Meyersdale Area School District will remain in a virtual learning environment for the remainder of the month and into January with a tentative return date of January 11th.  This decision will be reviewed at the January 6th board meeting.

During this time frame, there will be no extra-curricular activities and SCTC students will be participating in a virtual format.

Free breakfasts and lunches will be delivered at 6 locations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while virtual.  Please visit the District website’s Virtual Meal Order Form, the District Facebook Page, or contact the Cafeteria for more information.

Nurse-Although students will not be in the school building, we would appreciate knowing if your child is required to be isolating or quarantining. This information will help our nurse understand our level of community spread as well as help our teachers to know who is too ill to be completing assignments. Please call the school nurse to keep us updated.

  • 11-12-20 COVID-19 Update

This evening, we received two notifications of positive cases of COVID-19 within our student body. The cases are in the high school.  To allow for a deep cleaning of the school facility and ample time for the contact tracing process, high school  students should not report to school tomorrow, Friday, November 13th. In addition, to adhere to the guidance provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Meyersdale Area High School students should not report to in-person classes until next Wednesday, November 18th. Tomorrow, all Meyersdale High School students should login to Canvas to access their instruction. Both Meyersdale Elementary School and Meyersdale Middle School will be open for a regular school day with in-person instruction tomorrow. Thank you and have a good evening.
