MISSION STATEMENT
The High School and Middle School Office hours will change to 7:15am to 3:15pm. This change will occur while two bus routes are running so that Secretaries are present as students are entering the buildings.
In an effort to maintain a safe learning environment for students, faculty, and staff, please contact our school nurse if your child has been in contact with or has had COVID-19 during the time we have been on remote learning or during the holiday break. We would appreciate full transparency of recent illness to maintain a safe environment. We also request honesty in regard to out of state travel. Upon return to school, only approved cloth face masks and approved plastic face shields that cover the nose and mouth, extends below the chin and to the ears, and leaves no exposed gap between the forehead and the shield’s headpiece are acceptable. The nurse can be reached via email arough@masd.net or 814-634-8311 ext 308. Thank you.
SHOULD I SEND MY CHILD TO SCHOOL?
Meyersdale Area School Community,
This week, the Meyersdale Area School Board voted to return to a regular face-to-face schedule beginning Monday, January 11th. However, due to current COVID cases in the district, we will only be returning in a HYBRID SCHEDULE. Next week, High School and Middle School will be in school Monday and Wednesday and Elementary will be in school Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Students will be working virtually when they are not in school.
SCTC students will begin regular face-to-face instruction at the technology center beginning Monday, January 11th. The SCTC schedule, including transportation, will remain the same Monday through Friday.
All extra-curricular activities will resume on Monday.
As of today, all students will resume full-time face-to-face instruction on Monday, January 18th. Although this had previously been scheduled as an Act 80 day, students will be in session on this date. Please look for additional information as we get closer to that date.
Based on the rising concerns with COVID-19 in our area, the Meyersdale Area School District will remain in a virtual learning environment for the remainder of the month and into January with a tentative return date of January 11th. This decision will be reviewed at the January 6th board meeting.
During this time frame, there will be no extra-curricular activities and SCTC students will be participating in a virtual format.
Free breakfasts and lunches will be delivered at 6 locations on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while virtual. Please visit the District website’s Virtual Meal Order Form, the District Facebook Page, or contact the Cafeteria for more information.
Nurse-Although students will not be in the school building, we would appreciate knowing if your child is required to be isolating or quarantining. This information will help our nurse understand our level of community spread as well as help our teachers to know who is too ill to be completing assignments. Please call the school nurse to keep us updated.
Today, we became aware of an additional positive case of COVID-19 within our student body and started the contact tracing procedures. Both cases this week involved students in our middle school. Based on our findings and in accordance with the guidance provided by the Department of Health, Meyersdale Area Middle School will be closed to students until Wednesday, November 11th. In addition, both the elementary and high school will be closed tomorrow to allow for thorough contact tracing and continued deep cleaning. SCTC students should not report to the technology center tomorrow. As we face virtual days due to safety concerns, all students and families are reminded that students must login to Canvas to access their instruction throughout the specified time period. While instruction is not necessarily held to a specific timeline, students must login to be counted as present and determine teacher instructions. Students with internet issues should contact their respective school to make them aware of the difficulties.
To provide clarity, students can complete online work through Canvas, during a school closure at any point throughout the day- morning, afternoon or evening. Our goal is to educate our students while providing flexibility to our families.
Meyersdale Area Families, Students, Faculty & Staff,
The district has been notified of a positive case of COVID-19 within our student body. The case is in the middle school and we have completed the contact tracing that goes along with the case. At this point in time, individuals who were within 6 feet of the student for greater than 15 minutes have been contacted to quarantine for the required 14 days. In addition, the school undergoes a deep cleaning process regularly. School will be in session tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4th. Thank you and have a good evening.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 20th, Meyersdale Elementary and Middle School students will attend school in person and participate in a regular school day. Meyersdale Area High School students should not report to school and should continue to complete course work virtually. Somerset County Technology Center students should not report to the technology center in person and should also complete their course work online. Again, tomorrow, the Meyersdale Elementary and Middle school students will report to school in person unless they are ill or have an elevated temperature and Meyersdale High School students will complete work virtually and not attend school in person.
