Kindergarten set to rock on Friday night!
The conclusion of the school year is a time of celebration and the 55 kindergarten students at Meyersdale Area Elementary School are ready to “rock”!
“Kindergarten students have successfully completed the year and will be showing off their accomplishments by signing and participating in our first annual graduation,” explained Devin Pritts, MAES Principal.
“Kindergarten Rocks” is the annual Spring Program and will be held in conjunction with the first annual Kindergarten graduation ceremony. This special program will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 18 at the high school auditorium.
During the week of the performance, students rehearsed their individual roles in preparation for their debut.
“The students each will say a small part relating to each letter in the alphabet, called the ABC Farewell, then recite a few poems, and sing several songs. Following the spring program, we will show an iMovie of pictures that have been taken throughout the school year showing how much fun we have in kindergarten,” explained Brandy Paulman, Kindergarten teacher. “After the slideshow of pictures, the students will participate in kindergarten graduation. This is the first time a graduation portion has been added to the spring program.”
Paulman said the annual Spring Program is enjoyed by the students and families alike, an opportunity to celebrate their growth and achievements during the first year of school. This annual event has has become a school tradition, enjoyed by many students and their families.
She said the theme of “Kindergarten Rocks” is quite fitting for this special group of youngsters. *Every year we choose a different title for the spring program and we try to base it off the theme of the songs we choose for the students to sing. And I think it’s a great title because kindergarten really does ‘rock’! The students learn so much in their few months with us and we are so proud of how much they grow throughout their year in kindergarten.”
Attendees are sure to have an enjoyable evening and the students will enjoy what will be the first of many milestones in their educational career.
“The kindergarten spring program has been a traditional end of the event for many years. This year we decided to move the show to a later date in May and we added a graduation ceremony to the end of the program. Kindergarten graduation is a acknowledgment of the effort that each student has put forth throughout the year. These kindergarteners have learned to read & write, add and subtract, share, be kind, make friends and much more,” Paulman explained. “They have learned to succeed in so many ways and it should be something we celebrate!”
“We can't wait to see what else they will accomplish will at Meyersdale Area Elementary,” added Pritts.
