Olympic Day planned for September 25

Students at the Meyersdale Area High School are readying for a day of fun, friendly competition and fabulous prizes for the 2019 Olympic Day scheduled for September 25th.

Olympic Day is now in its sixth year and organizers have planned a special day. Challenges and events will include egg toss, water balloon pass, hula hoop, baseball, softball, cornhole, field goal kick, wheelbarrow race, archery, 3-legged race, volleyball, foul shooting, bigfoot race, can jam, kickball, sheet balloon toss, 4x1 relay race, sponge  race, and powderpuff football. Representatives from the National Guard will be bringing Knockerballs, so students can play bubble soccer!  Participants must have parent permission to participate in this event.

The coveted Olympic Day trophy is up for grabs and grade levels will compete for this year’s title. A pizza and sub sale is currently underway to raise money for Olympic Day to help with lunch, supplies and prizes.

Organizers, Mrs. Ginger Geiger, Mrs. Patti Shaulis and Mrs. Chris Custer, are planning to have a prize drawing for all those who participate. Students will receive a ticket for every event they participate in.  Prizes range from a flat screen tv, gift cards of all types like food, clothing, Amazon, etc. “The winning class will also receive a sheetz gift card. The amount will be determined by the number of participants.”

In addition to a day filled with challenges, competition and feats of strength and ability, students will be treated to a delicious lunch provided by Olympic Day funds and the local Sheetz store. Sheetz representatives will be on hand and provide hot dogs, with all the fixings; chips and drinks for all students.

“We wanted the kids to unwind and enjoy a day from school work like students did years ago. We would also like to thank Sheetz for all their donations and to faculty and staff for all their work that goes into making this a successful event.”
