Raider Spirit Fun Run planned
MEYERSDALE — The Meyersdale Athletic Boosters will be hosting their 10th annual McDonough/Miller “Raider Spirit” Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Meyersdale School Athletic Field. 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of this special event.
The run is held in memory of two former Meyersdale cross country and track coaches, William “Bill” Mc-Donough and Michael Miller. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund. The 5K run will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the 5K walk beginning at 9:35 a.m. Teams must be made up of five males or five females — no coed teams.
“I’m so appreciative of the Boosters honoring Bill and Mike with these races. It is amazing to me that this one will be the 10th! To make it special there is a challenge issued to other teams,” explained Linda McDonough, wife of the late Bill McDonough. “We hope to recognize athletes that were coached by Bill & Mike. For example the 1990 400 meter relay team won a silver medal at States on Bill’s birthday that year, the hope is several will attend, if not to run just to be there!”
Costs will be $15 per entry or $60 for a team fee for registers before Sept. 21. After Sept. 21, costs will be $20 per entry or $80 per team. All entry fees will be paid for athletes from any school. Students are asked to fill out the form and mail it in. Make checks payable to Meyersdale Red Raider Athletic Boosters and send to Gindy’s Gym, 105 Schardt Road, Meyersdale, PA 15552.
“This is really a great event honoring the legacy of Mr. Miller and Mr. McDonough and their contribution to our cross country and track and field programs,” Craig Gindlesperger, Director of Athletics, MAHS. “Mrs. McDonough has been an avid supporter of our student athletes and this run. She takes care of the entry fee for all student athletes from area high schools.
