Santa's Store set top open December 4 & 5

MEYERSDALE - Christmas shopping is about to get easier with the return of Santa’s Store at the Meyersdale Area Elementary School (MAES). Hosted and sponsored by the  Meyersdale Area Educational Boosters this annual tradition will be held December 4 and 5 in the MAES gymnasium.

Santa’s Store promises excellent - and affordable - shopping opportunities for students in Kindergarten through fifth grade. Santa’s Store will be held to help area children buy something special for special family members and friends. While Santa will not have time to visit this year, as Christmas is just a few weeks away, he has been working hard with event organizers to ensure a great selection of gift items!

According to Ginger Ackerman, event organizer, all items available for purchase by the students will be priced at $5 or less. The event is being planned by Ackerman and Julia Smith, second grade teacher and President of the Boosters.

Organizers have a full line up of vendors who will offer a wide variety of gift options, including jewelry, wood crafts, toys and much more!

“Our vendors enjoy this event as much as the students,” explainedAckerman. “They really enjoy coming to our school and we have many that have been coming for several years.”

Santa’s Store will be open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 5 to allow family members, friends and the community a chance to peruse all of the wonderful items offered by this year’s vendors.

Students will be given a “shopping envelope” to help plan their spending and adults will be on hand to help children with their shopping. Cash is the only accepted form of payment. Students in kindergarten through third grade will be shopping Wednesday, December 4; and grades four and five will shop Thursday, December 5.

Volunteers, parents, teachers and instructional aides assist the students with purchasing of gifts. It is marked on each student’s envelope who they need to keep in mind while shopping. We help them understand the cost of items, budgeting, and paying for the gifts,” explained Smith. “We also have small activities, like coloring a Christmas card, for the students to do once they have finished shopping.”

Santa’s Store is a fundraiser for the boosters as vendors pay a small fee in order to participate. Santa’s Store is fortunate to have vendors who come each year with their unique gift items, as well as new vendors offering great shopping options for students.

Santa’s Store will be held on the first days back following Thanksgiving break, on December 4 and 5. Don’t miss this opportunity to tackle that Christmas list and shop for some amazing deals!

“Our students are always very excited to shop at Santa’s Store. It gives them an opportunity to surprise family members with a gift from the heart. They look forward to it every year,” added Smith.
