Salisbury VFW makes donations to MAHS
Members of the Salisbury VFW, Post 8826, visited the Meyersdale Area School District on February 21 to make a significant donation to the Meyersdale Area Athletic Boosters and the Meyersdale Area High School Band Boosters.
Mrs. Katie Howard, MASD Director of Bands, accepted a donation in the amount of $1,500.
“This very unexpected and highly appreciated donation from the Salisbury VFW will be used by the Band Boosters to either purchase needed band equipment or to help purchase the performance shirts for our upcoming trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee,” Howard explained.
A check for $1,500 was accepted by Mrs. Patti Shaulis, Athletic Boosters Treasurer, on behalf of the Athletic Programs at MASD.
The Post also contributes financial support for the Meyersdale Rifle Team, 2020 WestPAC champions, as a lane sponsor at the team’s shooting range.
According to Mike Lensbouer, Post Commander, these funds were made possible through the small games of chance offered at the Post.
“We are proud to be able to make these annual donations to the Meyersdale School District, as well as Salisbury-Elk Lick School District and Northern Garrett School District,” Lensbouer added. “We believe it's important to support the students in these Districts and their activities.”
Mr. John Wiltrout, MAHS Principal, said the support of the Salisbury VFW is deeply appreciated.
“School-Community connections are of utmost importance in our school district and local community. I sincerely thank the members of the Salisbury VFW Post 8826 for their most recent contributions to our Band, Athletic Boosters, and Rifle programs. The generosity they annually extend to our students and school community are a valuable asset financially,” Wiltrout said. “In addition, the commitment of Post 8826 to our school also sends our students a positive message for community service, a sense for philanthropy, and moral values and duties. It is a pleasure working with this fine service organization.”
