Remarkable Raiders honored
MEYERSDALE - The following Meyersdale Area Middle and High School students were named Remarkable Raiders for the month of October. Students in grades six through 12 were selected based on the merits of Academic Performance, Character, Behavior, Effort, Good Citizenship and Attendance. Remarkable Raiders will be recognized at the monthly meetings of the Meyersdale School Board.
The following Meyersdale Middle School students have been named Remarkable Raiders for the Month of October: Madison Berkley, Emma Kretchman and Calen Simpkins.
Berkley is a sixth grade student. She is the daughter of Ashley and Richard Berkley. Her favorite subjects are Math and Social Studies. Her hobbies include basketball, softball and dance. Her goal is to be a member of a WNBA team or go into Sports Management.
Kretchman is a seventh grade student and is the daughter of Jennifer and Joe Kretchman. Her favorite subjects are English and Math. Her hobbies include basketball and track. Kretchman loves all things construction and hopes to one day be an interior designer or a contractor.
Simpkins, an eighth grade student, is the son of Elizabeth and Jonathan Simpkins. His favorite subject is History and his school activities include Red Raider Marching Band, Ski Club and Track and Field. Simpkins’ favorite aspect of school is seeing his friends each day. He hopes one day to own his own business.
The following Meyersdale High School students have been named Remarkable Raiders for the Month of October: Gracie Paulman, Kiley Baker, Jillian Bako and Dawson Rough.
Paulman, a ninth grade student, is the daughter of Brandy and Michael Paulman. An Honors student, she is a member of Student Council, FBLA and yearbook staff. Paulman’s favorite subject is Math and she plans to attend college to pursue that passion. Her favorite activity is dance. A member of the Studio 7 School of Dance, she is a member of the company squad and is a student helper.
Baker is a tenth grade student at MAHS. Baker’s favorite subjects include English and Science. When not completing schoolwork, Baker enjoys relaxing with friends and watching television. Though unsure of her future plans, Baker knows in order to be successful she must continue to work hard in preparation for college.
Jillian Bako is a junior here at MAHS. She transferred from Bishop Walsh. Her activities include Science Club, Red Raider Marching Band, Jazz Band and she is a member of the Cross Countryand Basketball teams. Bako was amember of the National Honor Society and earned the distinction of an AP Scholar. In her free time, she volunteers with the Frostburg Arion Band and serves as a coach and referee at the Cumberland YMCA. Bako is enjoying her new school greatly, and really enjoys her STEM classes. Following graduation, she plans to attend college and major in Chemical Engineering.
Dawson Rough, a senior at MAHS, is the son of Amy and Dan Rough. Rough’s activities include National Honor Society, Student Council, FBLA, 1000 SAT Club, A-Average Club. He has been named 2021 Boy of the Year, 2021 Class Treasurer, Lions Student of the Month and has maintained a 4.0+ GPA. In his free time, Rough trades stock and stock options, and also works at FB Thomas Drug Store as a Pharmacy Technician. Following high school, Rough plans to attend college and major in finance.
