MASD honors area Veterans

Honoring Veterans

Student Council

Despite a host of challenge circumstances, the Meyersdale Area School District honored area veterans with a drive-through celebration on November 13. The original program was modified to reflect pandemic safety guidelines, and poor weather caused the event to be postponed for two days. However, nothing can diminish the deep appreciation MASD has for area veterans and their families. Nearly 30 veterans were treated with a drive-through lunch and were greeted with cheers and signs provided by the high school staff and middle school student body, including (from left) Leaonca Fazenbaker, Emma Kretchman and Kylee Haer. Veterans were then led on a parade past the elementary school, where children lined the entrance with homemade signs and banners. Unfortunately a building closure prevented high school students from joining in the festivities they had worked so hard to prepare. However, members of the MAHS Student Council and student body, including: Lauren Kretchman, DJ Roush, Olivia Miller, Alix Tipton, Dawson Rough, Abby Benning, Kiley Spataro and Miles Walker,  stood at the monument in town to greet the men and women they so deeply admire. The MAHS Student Council provided each guest with a small gift and token of their appreciation. A special thanks to area residents and businesses for lining the streets to pay honor to these fine men and women. Also, thanks to Meyersdale Borough Police Office Ray Wilhelm and members of the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department for their help in honoring our veterans.
