November Remarkable Raiders
MEYERSDALE - Several Meyersdale Area Middle and High School students were named Remarkable Raiders for the month of November. Students in grades six through 12 were selected based on the merits of Academic Performance, Character, Behavior, Effort, Good Citizenship and Attendance. Remarkable Raiders are recognized at the monthly meetings of the Meyersdale School Board.
The following Meyersdale Middle School students have been named Remarkable Raiders for the Month of November: Miranda Sandy, Destinne Manuel and Maria Housel.
Sandy, a sixth-grade student, is the daughter of Charles and Monica Sandy. Her favorite subject is Civics, a subject she enjoys and does well in with her grades. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends. After high school, Sandy wants to become a traveling nurse to help others.
Manuel is a seventh grade student and is the daughter of Eilazer and Marina Manuel. Her favorite subjects are Math And Social Studies. She said she loves learning something new every day in Math and is enjoying learning more about Pennsylvania in Geography. She loves playing basketball and plans to go to college to one day become a doctor.
Housel, an eighth-grade student, is the daughter of Susan and Ricky Housel. She is a member of the Meyersdale Area Marching Band and Chorus. Her favorite classes are Science, Reading, Art, and Wood Shop. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, reading, and walking her dog. Following high school, Housel plans to attend college to become a veterinarian.
The following Meyersdale High School students have been named Remarkable Raiders for the Month of November: Malachi Carr, Dawson Mauer, Elizabeth Sayler and Gabe Kretchman.
Malachi Carr is the son of Nitacha Carr and Stephen Friend. A ninth-grade student, Carr said his favorite subject is phys-ed. Outside of school, Carr enjoys sports, playing his PS4 and spending time with family and friends. He hopes to one day play football or basketball at a collegiate level.
Dawson Maurer, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Bittinger, is a tenth-grade student at MAHS. He enjoys playing guitar and writing and listening to music. Mauer enjoys studying the thoughts and feelings of his fellow mankind and hopes to one day to become a psychologist.
Elizabeth Sayler, a junior, is the daughter of April and Tim Kretchman and John Sayler. Sayler is a member of the musical cast, Raider Review, band and chorus. A member of the track and cross-country teams, Sayler also helps keep stats for the boys basketball team. She enjoys playing piano, baking, reading and spending time with family. Following high school, Sayler plans to attend a four-year college for a Science-related major.
A senior at MAHS, Kretchman is the son of Jennifer and Joseph Kretchman. A college prep student, he plans to attend a four-year university to study Construction Management or Building Construction. Kretchman is a member of National Honor Society and Tech Ed. Club. He is also a member of the Red Raider Varsity Basketball and Track and Field teams.
