Students enjoy a "magical adventure"
MEYERSDALE - Meyersdale Area Elementary students enjoyed a day or excitement, fun and sweetness on February 12 with a virtual trip to Disney World! Organized by The Meyersdale Area Elementary Educational Boosters, this day-long celebration, “Disney Day,” was held in lieu of traditional Valentine's Day parties and as part of the positive behavior program (PBIS).
The Educational Boosters purchased Mickey/Minnie ears, bracelets, and Valentine's Day crafts and games for the students. Students were encouraged to wear their Disney attire and were greeted by staff and faculty in similar outfits and costumes. The hallways and classrooms were filled with wonder as students had their first look at decorations, as the theme was evident throughout the building. A “photo-op” was erected in the lobby, allowing students to enjoy the typical souvenir photo in front of Cinederella’s Castle. In lieu of the traditional Valentine and treat exchange, the Boosters also provided a snack bag, cookies and milk for students and staff.
Stacy Kucenic, Media Specialist; and Joey Emerick, guidance counselor, created an interactive virtual experience for the students that “led” them through the park’s famous rides, the traditional Disney parade and a fireworks show. Organizers said this event would not have been possible without the continued dedication of the staff and faculty.
“The Boosters wanted to do something special for the kids because it has been such a challenging year. We wanted to do something magical because so many of our activities look different this year,” explained Julia Smith, Boosters President. “Field trips and assemblies have been canceled and we felt it important to do something special for Valentine’s Day.”
The Meyersdale Area Educational Boosters work hard throughout the year to offer each student enriching and educational experiences. Despite the current restrictions, these volunteers continue to identify ways to make this school year as exciting and fun as any other.
“We appreciate everything the Educational Boosters do for our students. Disney Day is another great positive event for our students. This year has brought many challenges and we are excited to have something to look forward to,” added Devin Pritts, MAES Principal.
The Meyersdale Area Elementary Boosters meet 3 p.m. on the third Monday of each month. New members and volunteers are always welcome!
