Students organize annual Baccalaureate service

MAHS Class of 2021 Officers

MEYERSDALE - Baccalaureate services are traditionally a time to reflect and pause on the achievements of graduates. For the Meyersdale Area High School Class of 2021, the June 3 student-sponsored service was indeed a time of reflection - reflection on the challenging year these students have faced and the unlimited hope for their futures.

More than 20 members of the class participated in and helped bring this annual tradition to MAHS. These seniors have faced unheard of challenges and have adapted to many tribulations in the final year of their high school careers but have done so with determination and grace. That determination and grace was on display for the service featuring special music, readings, and prayer.

MAHS Class of 2021 Officers include Karlee Witherite, President; Olivia Miller, Vice President; Brycen Sechler, Secretary; and Dawson Rough, Treasurer. Witherite provided the welcoming address, while Miller offered the opening prayer. Sechler read from Matthew 28:18-20 and Rough offered the closing prayer. Brennan Campbell also offered a reading of Romans 10:13-15. Special music included Amazing Grace” and “This is the Day.”  Juniors, Kylie Sipple and Melanie Reither served as Marshalls for the ceremony.

Gabe Yoder, Senior Pastor at the Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church, served as the guest speaker. Yoder is a 2013 MAHS graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and Biblical Studies from Lancaster Bible College in 2017. Since 2017, Yoder has been serving at Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church as Youth Pastor, and now as Senior Pastor. Yoder shared a message entitled “Unashamed of the Gospel.”
