4th Annual Walk-a-Thon planned

MEYERSDALE - The Fourth Annual Red Raider Walk-A Thon is scheduled for September 24 and students, faculty and staff alike are ready to get “stepping!”

Hosted by the Meyersdale Area Elementary Educational Boosters, this event raised more than $50,000 in three years and organizers are confident this year will prove just as successful!

Students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade will be seeking sponsors for their efforts, as well as flat donations. Students in kindergarten and first grade will have 30 minutes to walk as many half-laps as they can. Older students, those in second through fifth grade, will have one hour to complete as many full laps as they are capable.

Pledge forms and donations are due at the school by Friday, October 8. Checks should be made payable to the Meyersdale Area Educational Boosters.

Organizers and students are grateful for the support shown by our community each year.

“The Educational Boosters are always looking for new opportunities to support students both in and out of the classroom,” added MAES Principal Devin Pritts. “Proceeds from the upcoming Walk-a-Thon will benefit field trips, assemblies and other programs and activities to enhance the educational experience of our students.”

Annually the Boosters provide funding for assemblies, Red Raider Pride t- shirts, additional funding for field trips classroom projects and materials and playground upgrades,

Pritts said Walk-A-Thon fosters school pride and spirit, as the students are working together to achieve something very special for their school.

As such, the Boosters have purchased t-shirts for each student to wear on the day of the walk-a-thon.

Christa Wiltrout, Boosters’ President, said this event has proven “exceptional” because it allows each student to participate and promotes physical activity school-wide.

The Meyersdale Area Elementary Educational Boosters meet the third Monday of each month at 3 p.m. in the elementary forum. Family members of students, in grades K through fifth grade are invited to attend and support this organization and their efforts. For more information please contact the Meyersdale Area Elementary office at 814-634-8311.

“The Boosters are always looking for new ideas and parent input, so we would like to encourage any parents/guardians to attend our monthly meetings,” Wiltrout added.

Sponsorship and pledge forms for the 4th Annual Meyersdale Elementary School Walk-a-Thon have been sent home with all elementary students. This will be the only fundraiser the Educational Boosters will be holding for this school year. Please contact your favorite MAES student and find out how you can support our school and make this event a great success!

“We are so grateful for the support shown by the community,” Pritts added.
