MEYERSDALE - Several Meyersdale Middle School students were recognized and honored as first year FFA members during the 106th Pennsylvania Farm Show, held January 8 through 15, 2022, in Harrisburg. The FFA Mid-Winter Convention was also held during the Farm Show.
Members traveled to the Farm Show on January 10 and participated in the jacket presentation ceremony. More than 430 students from across the Commonwealth, including those from Meyersdale, were presented with jackets. The following first year members of the Meyersdale FFA Chapter recently received their FFA jackets: Aidan Mosholder, Christopher Engle, Evan Knotts, Carrie Engle, Estella Friend, Ella Brant and Natalie Trowbridge.
Jackets are a part of official dress for FFA members and are an article of faith, honor and pride. The jacket unifies members in a long-standing tradition. Only first year members are eligible and must complete an online application to be considered. Jackets are provided by the Pennsylvania FFA Alumni. FFA Alumni play a very important part in keeping agricultural education and FFA programs in our local schools. FFA relies on its alumni to garner support for FFA from their local communities, raise funds for state & chapter activities and scholarships, assist at FFA leadership camps and conferences, and much more.
“We were so glad to be able to attend this year’s Farm Show in person and I was glad so many of our students were able to participate in the jacket ceremony. It is a very special event and signifies the start of their FFA careers,” Jamison explained. “I am proud of all of our first year members.
