The Occupation Service program, at Somerset County Technology Center,  under the direction of Mrs. Jill Rugg, recently launched a unit on cooking for students. The first lesson was microwave cooking. Students were challenged to find and make a recipe to be sampled and judged by their fellow students. 

Two Meyersdale Area High School students excelled at the challenge and received top honors. 

Giovanne Browne-Davila made homemade nacho chips from tortilla shells with taco meat. Katelyn Broadwater prepared a homemade caramel dipping sauce. 

Throughout this unit, students will learn various cooking methods. The next challenges will be making soup; baking a cake from scratch; a one-pot recipe; pizza; cookies; pasta and grilling hamburgers.

The Occupation Service program provides students with instruction on many topics, in addition to cooking. The class also teaches janitorial skills, automotive detailing, laundry services, carpentry, lawn care & grounds keeping, customer service, safety, warehouse & distribution, retail sales and housekeeping.
