Coffee Cart hosts "customer appreciation" event

The Meyersdale Elementary Coffee Cart proved to be a great success and a true “perk” for all customers. In a show of appreciation, students in Mrs. Marissa Deist’s class held a special customer appreciation event on May 22.

Students prepared a lemonade and iced tea station, complete with special syrups and fresh fruit, along with an array of sweet treats.

Deist said The Coffee Cart proved more successful than she imagined and credits the students’ hard work and enthusiasm for its success.

The Coffee Cart, established in October, quickly became a faculty and staff favorite, as orders grew with each passing month. Aside from offering delicious drinks and treats, the students provide their customers with the best possible service, always delivered with a smile, and sometimes even a hug!

“The customers were very supportive and made this a great experience for the students. I was so appreciative of everybody taking the time to stop and engage with the kids when making deliveries,” Deist explained.

While ensuring the satisfaction of customers was important, Deist said the skills acquired by her students throughout their first year “in business” are invaluable.

“When we first started, some of the kids struggled to get through the delivery. By the end of the year, though, all of the kids were socializing and engaging in some way the entire time,” she said. “They also learned that they had a job to complete and couldn't take a break or move on to something else until their job was done.”

Deist and The Coffee Cart employees are already planning to re-open in the Fall and look forward to serving up even more smiles during the 2023-2024 school year!
